Setting Up 2-Step Verification in the UZIO Mobile App

Modified on Sat, 24 Oct at 7:07 PM

Purpose

2-Step Verification adds a second check when you sign in: your password plus a six-digit code from your phone. It protects your pay, your bank details and your Social Security number. This article shows how to set it up in the UZIO mobile app.

Who this is for: employees and reporting managers who use the UZIO mobile app. If you are also an administrator or manager at your company, you can set it up here too.

Which article do I need?

You set up 2-Step Verification once, for your UZIO login. It then works everywhere you sign in: the UZIO mobile app, the Employee Portal and, if you have one, the Employer Portal.

What you'll see

Your situationWhat happens
You are new to UZIO and your company requires 2-Step VerificationRegister in a web browser first. You cannot register in the app. After that, the first time you sign in, on the web or in the app, you are asked to set up 2-Step Verification before your pay and time screens open.
You already use UZIO, and your company has just started requiring itNothing changes until your next sign-in. Then UZIO asks you to set it up before your pay, time off and time tracking screens open. Your username and password stay the same.
You have already set up 2-Step VerificationNothing changes. Enter your code when asked. Setup done on the web also works in the app, and the other way round.
Your company does not require itYou are not asked to set it up, but you can still turn it on yourself. UZIO recommends it.

Before you start

  • Have your phone with you. Setup takes about two minutes.
  • Choose a method:
    • Authentication App (recommended). Works without mobile signal. You need a free authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Authy.
    • Text Message. UZIO texts a code to your mobile number. You need signal to receive it.

Set it up in the app

  1. Sign in to the UZIO mobile app with your username and password.
  2. If your company requires 2-Step Verification, the app asks you to set it up. Otherwise, open the menu (your name and photo), then Account Information > 2-Step Verification.
  3. On Select a 2-Step Verification method, choose Authentication App or Text Message, then follow the steps below.

Option A: Authentication App (recommended)

The Authentication App Setup screen has three steps:

  1. Step 1: install an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Authy, from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Step 2: add UZIO to your authenticator app:
    • Authenticator app on the same phone: copy the setup key shown under Step 2 (tap the copy icon). In your authenticator app, add an account, choose to enter a setup key, and paste it.
    • Authenticator app on another device: tap Show QR Code and scan it with the other device.
  3. Step 3: your authenticator app now shows a six-digit code for UZIO. Enter it in Enter 6 Digit Code.

Need help with your authenticator app? The app makers explain how to add an account by scanning a QR code or typing a key: Authy: add a new account and Microsoft Authenticator: add other accounts. In Google Authenticator, tap + and choose to scan a QR code or enter a setup key.

Warning: The setup key is a secret, like a password. Never share it or send a screenshot of this screen to anyone, including UZIO.

Option B: Text Message

  1. On Text Message Setup, choose your country under Select Country.
  2. Enter your mobile number under Enter Phone Number.
  3. Tap Send Verification Code.
  4. Enter the six-digit code you receive. On most phones it fills in automatically.

When setup is done, the app opens as usual.

Signing in after setup

  • Each time you sign in, enter your password and then the code from your authenticator app or text message.
  • The same code works for the app and the web. You don't need to set it up again for the web.

New phone or new number

  • Changing phones: before you switch, set up your new phone. Sign in on the web and go to Account Information > 2-Step Verification > Change. If you use an authenticator app, move your accounts to the new phone first, if the app offers that.
  • Changing your mobile number: update it the same way before the old number stops working.

Common problems

I lost my phone or got a new one before moving 2-Step Verification

Ask your HR team or your company's Employer Administrator to reset your 2-Step Verification. You receive an email with the subject Your 2-Step Verification has been reset. The next time you sign in, you set it up again with your new phone.

My authenticator code is rejected

Codes depend on your phone's clock. In your phone's settings, set the date, time and time zone to automatic, then try the next code. Enter each code within 30 seconds.

I can't scan the QR code

You can't scan a QR code that's on the same phone. Copy the setup key under Step 2 instead and paste it into your authenticator app.

The text message never arrives

Check the country and number you entered, and that your phone has signal and isn't blocking unknown senders. Then tap Send Verification Code again. If texts are unreliable where you work, choose Authentication App instead.

The app still won't open my pay or time screens

Make sure you finished setup and entered a code successfully. Sign out of the app and sign in again. If the app asks you to update, install the newer version first.

Still stuck?

Contact your HR team first. They can reset your 2-Step Verification. If you can't reach them, please reach out to us at support@uzio.com or call +1-571-601-1752. Include your username (login email) and your company name. UZIO verifies your identity before changing anything. Never send your password or your setup key.
