Purpose
AI Copilot lets you ask questions about your company's employee data in plain English, in a chat, instead of building a report. You type a question, and Copilot looks up the answer in your company's UZIO records and replies in the chat. When the answer is a long list, Copilot gives it to you as a file you can download.
When to use this: for quick, one-off questions about your people, such as a count or a list of employees who match something you describe. It saves you building a report you will only run once. It is not the place to go for a report you run every pay period, or one you need to schedule or share in a fixed format. Use Running and Scheduling Standard Reports or Creating a Custom Report Template for those.
Who can do this: users whose role includes the AI Copilot permission, and only where AI Copilot is enabled for your company. The permission is its own row under the role's Company Access, separate from the Reports permissions, so giving someone access to reports does not give them Copilot, and the reverse is also true. Grant it deliberately. See Managing Users and Roles and Understanding Roles and Access.
Ask Copilot a question
- In the Employer Portal, open AI Copilot.
- Type your question the way you would ask a colleague. Name what you want counted or listed, and any filter that matters, such as a department, a location or a status.
- Read the answer in the chat. Short answers appear in the chat itself.
- Ask a follow-up in the same chat to narrow or change the question. Copilot keeps track of the conversation, so you do not have to repeat everything.

Long answers come as a file. When an answer has more than 10 rows, or when you ask for a file, Copilot creates a download for you instead of filling the chat. You can ask for a CSV or an Excel file.
Tip: Be specific. "Active employees in the Denver office hired this year" gets a better answer than "new people in Denver". If an answer looks wrong, rephrase the question with the exact filter you mean.
What Copilot uses
Copilot answers from your company's own records in UZIO. That includes your employer custom fields, so a field you created can be part of a question. See Managing Employer Custom Fields.
What Copilot does not do
- It does not change anything. Copilot looks data up. It does not edit an employee record, run payroll or approve a request. Make changes on the screen where the data lives.
- It is not a substitute for a report you need to keep. A Copilot answer is worked out from your question each time. For a figure you will file, send to an auditor or compare month to month, use a saved report so it is built the same way every time.

Common problems
I can't find AI Copilot
There are three usual reasons:
- Your role does not include it. Ask a user who manages roles to check the AI Copilot row in your role's Company Access.
- It is not enabled for your company. AI Copilot is switched on per company.
- Your portal does not offer it. Some branded portals do not show AI Copilot at all.
If your role has the permission and you still cannot see it, contact UZIO Support. See Still stuck?.
The answer does not match my report
Copilot works out each answer from the words of your question, so a small difference in wording can mean a different filter. Check which employees the answer covers, such as active only or all, and which dates it uses. Ask again with the filter spelled out. If the two still disagree, trust the report and send the example to UZIO Support.
Still stuck?
If AI Copilot is missing although your role includes it, or an answer is clearly wrong after you have rephrased the question, contact UZIO Support at support@uzio.com or call +1-571-601-1752. Send your company name, your own user name, the exact question you typed, a screenshot of Copilot's answer, and the date and approximate time you asked. Do not paste Social Security numbers, bank details or other sensitive employee data into your email.
